New feature eliminates the clutter and cost of a separate Time Machine drive
SAN FRANCISCO – August 13, 2014 – Connected Data, the creator of the award-winning Drobo line of smart storage solutions, today announces a new feature for its Drobo Mini and Drobo 5D products that enables Apple Time Machine® users to utilize their high capacity Drobos for both user and backup data.
When Mac users add a disk to Time Machine there is no option to choose how much capacity to use for backup. Without the ability to set a limit for Time Machine, users must sacrifice their entire disk for backup leaving no room for user data. The latest enhancement for Drobo solves this challenge by allowing users to keep Time Machine backups as well as their documents, videos and photos on the same device. Drobo customers no longer need to purchase multiple USB devices to protect their data; saving them time, money and the hassle of managing individual drives.
“Providing data protection solutions that are easy to use without compromising functionality or peace-of-mind is the foundation for all Drobo products,” said Joe Disher, Senior Director of Product Marketing for Drobo. “Never before has a locally attached storage array made it this simple to allocate space for both Time Machine backups and user data, giving customers an elegant way to maximize capacity and eliminate the need to keep stacks of cluttered backup drives on their desk. This free update for all existing Drobo 5D and Mini customers shows our continued commitment to our loyal user base.”
Connected Data continues to simplify the experience for Mac users, making Drobo the perfect solution for consolidating Time Machine backups and user data onto a high performance, fully protected storage array.

The update is available to download for all existing Drobo 5D and Drobo Mini customers and can be implemented without disruption to existing data.
